Why I’m a Republican
by
Rick McCorkle
Since the
beginning of human history, people have organized themselves into large groups based
on common beliefs because joining a group leverages an individual’s
effectiveness. In any nation, there are usually two large groups that take
opposite sides on the most important questions. At this time in America’s
history, we have Republicans and Democrats. The Republican Party is mainly
conservative, and the Democratic Party is mainly liberal. Conservatives believe
in limited, constitutional government, and in the rights of individuals and the
states they live in. Liberals believe in an all-powerful, central government
that can pass any law it desires to control every aspect of our lives.
Conservatives believe that rights are universal and intrinsic, and exist apart
from government. Liberals believe there are no rights except those granted by
government. Liberals like to call themselves progressives, but they are
actually regressives because they want to take us back to the way things were
before the American Revolution, when we were under the thumb of a foreign king
and had virtually no rights. Regardless of what these two major political
parties may have stood for in the past, it’s clear what they stand for today
and they couldn’t be more different. Those who say that politicians are all the
same regardless of their party are uninformed.
Because
Republicans are against the government taking money away from people who earn
it and giving it to those who don’t, Democrats say that Republicans are only
for the rich. The truth is that Republicans are for
everyone becoming rich by being free to pursue their dreams. If you attack the
rich and take away their money, then you are actually preventing everyone from
becoming rich. Sadly, Democrats know that there are millions of people who want
the government to take money away from anyone who has it and give it to them
without them having to work for it. Democrats depend on the votes of those
people to stay in power. Republicans believe that people who work hard and take
risks should be able to enjoy the rewards. Such people not only help
themselves, but everyone else. They build enterprises that employ the rest of
us, and they create the wealth that the government depends on for its very
existence. They also give away enormous sums of money to help those who can’t
help themselves. Republicans are for paychecks being given to hard working
people by thriving businesses, not for food stamps being given by the
government to people who don’t work. Democrats want as many people as possible
to get unemployment benefits and food stamps because it buys them votes and
keeps them in power.
Republicans
know that family, friends, churches and charities always take better care of
those in need than the government does. Where there are real needs because of
circumstances beyond the control of those in need, Republicans are generous and
desire strongly that those needs be met, but to give to those who think they
deserve something for nothing is wrong. They also know that it’s much better to
actually be able to help others because of having an
abundance than it is to merely wish you could help. Who has ever been
financially helped by a poor person who depends on the government to give him
someone else’s money? Who has ever been given a job by someone who is receiving
unemployment checks and living on food stamps? Republicans believe that it’s
better to teach a man to fish then to give him a fish, but they would always
give him a fish if he was going to starve before he could take lessons. They
would also give him a fish if he was unable to fish. Republicans understand
that we are most happy and fulfilled when we achieve our goals by our own
efforts.
Republicans
believe that America has been a beacon of hope for hundreds of years to
oppressed people all over the world. They believe that anyone from anywhere
should be able to apply for citizenship and legally become a loyal American
citizen. Democrats falsely accuse Republicans of being against immigration when
they are only against illegal immigration. Contrary to what Democrats want
everyone to believe, millions of immigrants of all races have legally become
American citizens and are also against illegal immigration. Republicans believe
in America’s sovereignty, which is its right to govern itself by its own laws.
Democrats believe that the corrupt and impotent United Nations should be able
to impose its will on us and nullify our constitutional rights. They want
anyone to be able to cross our borders and get government benefits and vote
without proof of citizenship because they want the votes of those people to
help them realize their socialist and globalist agendas. Republicans believe
that America is for Americans, and that it can remain the hope of the world
only as long as it retains its sovereignty. Democrats want America’s wealth to
be redistributed to the rest of the world, which will destroy it, and the hopes
of people everywhere who desire to be free.
I’m a
Republican because the Republican Party stands for what I believe, which is
what will restore America. I know what it stands for because I go to meetings
and events and hear Republican officials and candidates speak, and I ask them questions face to face. I know what legislation they
support and what they oppose. I joined the Republican Party because I want to
join with those who share my beliefs and make a difference by helping the right
people run for office and win. It’s vitally important to help elect
conservative Republicans at all levels of government. We can’t have a free and
prosperous country if we don’t elect mayors, city council members, school board
members, clerks, district attorneys, county commissioners, sheriffs, judges,
state commissioners, state legislature members and governors who believe like
we do. Electing congressman and senators and presidents may seem more important
and exciting, but our freedoms can be taken away by petty tyrants at any level
of government. Just look at San Francisco, Chicago, and New York. If
Republicans are in control of state and local governments, then election fraud
can be prevented. This alone is reason enough to join and support your local
Republican party.
It’s time
for conservatives to unite and turn this country around. Regardless of what
other organization you may belong to, join the Republican Party and give some
time and money to it. It’s the biggest and most effective political
organization in the country to belong to for a conservative. It has deep roots,
and it’s the best vehicle to carry conservatives to victory at all levels of
government. If you don’t think it’s conservative
enough, then join it and help change it. Liberals seem to instinctively know
that their goals are best achieved by joining the Democratic Party.
Conservatives are more individualistic and slower to catch on, but we must join
forces to save our country from ruin. Join your county, state, or national
Republican Party, or all three, today.
