The Great Mistake of 2012

by Rick McCorkle

In 2008, the country was caught up in a wave of excitement and false hope. Many thought that electing a member of a minority race to the highest office in the land was so significant that they failed to find out what the candidate really believed or to look into his actual qualifications. When he started bowing and apologizing to America’s enemies and trampling on the rights of the people by imposing government control over their lives at an astonishing pace and to an alarming degree, many realized that they had made a terrible mistake. This man is not just a member of a minority race, but a member of a radical minority that intends to boldly brush aside the Constitution of the United States and have the government control everything. That is what Obama means by fundamentally changing America. The president of hope and change turned out not to be a new phenomenon, but just an old fashioned demagogue and dictator of the worst kind.

He said he would unite America, but he has been the most divisive president we have ever had. He sees everything in terms of class warfare and racial prejudice. His view of reality is totally distorted and has done great harm to our country. Barack Obama doesn’t understand America. Americans want to be free to achieve great things and to earn great wealth, or simply to be satisfied with less and find fulfillment in things that are less materially rewarding. Americans don’t want their president to try to fill them with hate and envy toward people who have more than they do. They don’t want him to seize the assets of others and give it to them because they don’t have as much. Obama will likely never understand this because his upbringing causes him to incorrectly view America as an exploitative colonial power that must be despoiled because it has unjustly garnered too much of the world’s wealth. He doesn’t understand that America was created by brave people who broke away from the iron fist of an exploitative colonial power over two hundred years ago. You have to wonder if he ever learned that we started out as thirteen colonies yearning to be free.

Unfortunately, like the president and his wife, there are many people who aren’t proud of America’s heritage and don’t believe in its traditions. The number of such people is large, but it’s still a minority. The trouble is, many of these people control the mainstream media and the entertainment industry, and they hold positions of great power in the government. They control much of the United States Congress and are close to controlling the United States Supreme Court. Many in America have woken up, though, and are now aware of the danger. The spirit of 1776 is once again spreading throughout the land as more and more Americans realize that the proud traditions of their great country are about to be buried, and the torch of liberty is about to be extinguished forever.

An American president should be chosen by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. It’s a great mistake to elect a symbol to the highest office in the land and to the most powerful position in the world without it being because he or she is the best qualified person who is willing to take the job. It’s not entirely Barack Obama’s fault that he is both the first black president and the worst president America has ever had. It’s the fault of too many Americans thinking he was a cool young black guy who didn’t need to be vetted. Obama was a slick, empty suit politician who became the trophy president of the elite liberal establishment because he was black. No matter that he had no new ideas, or even good ideas, and that the greatest principle of the American phenomenon, individual freedom, was anathema to him. Another member of a minority race will someday be elected president of this great land, and hopefully he or she will simply be the best person for the job. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen in 2012.
